I grew up very lucky in that I had a wonderful childhood. My parents made a decent amount of money, and we never struggled to pay the bills. I can’t pretend like I didn’t have it good growing up. Yet, when I was 14, I was raped. Being only 14, I was in the midst of discovering my self identity and the rape became my identity very quickly. I struggled throughout high school and college with PTSD, depression and anxiety. I picked a path to follow and did not stray for any reason. When I was 21, I was raped again. At that point, I decided that if I still followed the path, the trauma wouldn’t affect me as bad.
To an extent I was right, but I didn’t deal with the trauma like I should have. It affected my mental health even more and four years later, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Since my diagnosis (almost 3 years) I have been working to maintain my mental health. Part of that journey is letting go of being a rape victim as my identity and truly discovering who I am and who I want to be. And, it has not been an easy journey. There are many days where I spiral down a hole of self-doubt and identity crisis.
I obviously don’t want to live that way forever, so I keep trying different ways to know myself, my wants, and develop my self-identity. In my previous post, I discussed 100 things to do in 2023. Each of these list items will help me live life to the fullest and find my life purpose. The idea for 100 things to do in 2023 came from another blogger that I had found while researching Steve Harvey’s list of 300 thing to want from God. Now I’m not particularly a religious person, but I felt like the list could help me anyway. So, I found the video of Steve Harvey discussing writing out your vision. He quotes two scriptures: “You have not because you ask not” and “write the vision and make it plain so he who reads it will run to it, and even though it tarry, wait for it for surely it will come at an appointed time.” He then says to write down 300 things you want from God, read it every night and every morning, and at the end of a year, check off all the things that happened.
So, I did it!
